Skopelos Resort Description Our luxury Skopelos villas are some of the best Villas on Skopelos Island. Skopelos, the largest of the Sporades islands, is no less beautiful than her little sister Skiathos, just maybe a little less flirtatious, a little less extrovert and perhaps a touch more reflective. Travelling by hydrofoil from Skiathos along the remote north-east coast down to Skopelos Town, some delightful little beaches come into view, tucked away at the base of imposing, pine and plane tree forested slopes. Some of the island's beaches require a little effort to be reached, but not only will your endeavours be rewarded by beautiful coves of crystal clear water, the journey itself is often reward enough, leading through beautiful countryside and offering spectacular views of the coastline, the sea and the neighbouring islands. Skopelos Town itself is one of the most picturesque and best preserved harbour towns in the whole of Greece. Simple whitewashed cottages and elegant balconied mansions tumble down from the old Venetian hilltop castle to a perfect natural harbour, along steep cobbled lanes whose convergence at improbable angles makes it impossible for cars to pass through. Flower-filled courtyards, brightly painted shutters and ornate balconies add colour to the brilliant white of the walls, as do the 125 churches that are still dotted around the town. The surprisingly sophisticated craft shops and jewellers tucked away in these lanes have not usurped the scenes of traditional Greek village life and the locals - whilst wonderfully open and welcoming - have not allowed tourism to alter their lives unduly. In the evenings, local residents and holidaymakers alike can be found doing the volta along the harbour front and filing into the charming tavernas, cafés, bars and ouzeries that set out their tables under colourful awnings and ancient plane trees. Due south from the town are two lovely sand-and-shingle beaches that can easily be reached by car or by bus, Stafilos and Velanio.
